WILL OF ARTHUR LINDLEY OF LEATHLEY 1636 In the name of God amen I Arthur Lindley of Leathley in the Countie of Yorke Esq finding my selfe to be sicke and infirme of Bodie yet of perfect remembrance. I humbly thank God, doe make this my last will and Testament in manner and fforme following, that is to say ffirst and principally I hereby yeilde upp my Soule into the hands of almightie God my maker and creator, hopinge assuredly in and by the merritts of Jesus Christ my onely Saviour and redemer to obtayne pardon and forgiveness of all my Sins and trangressions And my bodie I bequeath to Christian buriall where it shall please God to call me to be buried at the discresion of my Executors and ffrends, and for that Substance? Which it pleased God to Endow me which I dispose as ffolloweth (---)?. My will and mynde is that all my debts shallbe well and truly paid for with all of my personell Estaite and ---? If the same will amounts to pay the same And if it amounts to more then will discharge my debts and ffunerall expences then my will and mynde is the same beinge paid and discharged that the remainder shallbe accordinge to the Custome of this promice of Yorke divided into two Equall parts one part whereof is by the said Custome one unto Alice my wife which my mynde is she shall have accordinly and the other equall part beinge called the Dead? Part I give unto my daughter Dame Jane Lofftus and to my daughter Hellen Hopton to be equally divided betwixt them, And I make Alice Lindley my wife my full and whole executrix of this my last will and testament In wittnesse whereof of the said Arthur Lindley hath hereunto Sett my hand and Seale this ffourteenthe day of April.
