My name is John Lindley and I first became
interested in Family History about 30 years ago. At the time I was working in
the mining industry and had very little time to do research. I spent what time I
had at the Doncaster Archives were I received much help from the staff. I had a
'boost' to my research when I came across a book called 'Coalmining,
Glassworkers and Potters'. It had extracts of the 1871 Census for Conisbrough, Denaby and Mexbrough in its contents in the glassworkers section were three
names, William Lindley from Alerton Bywater, John & James Lindley from Hunslet.
My father had once said that his father had mentioned to him about Hunslet and
that he came from Thornhill Lees at Dewsbury. So that 'fired' me up and I set
about the task of tracing my family history. Over the years it has given me
great pleasure and I now feel it is time to share this interest on my web site.
Researching your family history is a good way to make new friends and meet relatives, some of whom you may never have met
before. We have made contact with relatives from all over the world, many of
them we converse with on a regular basis.
Although
this site is called Lindley Ancestry, I am researching all sides of my family.
Therefore I have many names in my tree. Researching your family tree is never
ending, there is always new information to be found. Sometimes you hit a wall.
Never give up, sooner or later the information you seek will be found.
I hope everyone, experienced or not, will get
some benefit from my site. If you look around, you will find lots of advice;
information and articles. If there is something you would like to see on this
site, just use the Contact us link and
if it's possible, I will put it on the site.
You will also find a 'Links' page which
I hope will help you in your research.
Don't forget to read my
'Guestbook', you might
find someone who is researching your family, that you can get in touch with.
Lastly, please save the site to your favourites
so you can come back and visit again.
I will try and update the site on a regular
basis. Many thanks
John Lindley BSc
