Welcome to the Borthwick Institute for Archives
The Borthwick Institute for Archives is one of the biggest archive
respositories outside London. During our 50 year history we have collected
archives from all around the world, from the 12th century to the present
day. Every year we welcome thousands of visitors to use our archive
materials.
In January 2005 we opened to the public in a new, purpose-built
building, situated adjacent to the J.B. Morrell Library on the University
of York's Heslington campus. This new building was made possible due to a
generous grant of £4.4 million by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
